Manner Monday Gossip
Manner Monday Gossip Every Monday Blogging4Jobs invites our resident Etiquette Expert, CareySue Vega (@Etiquette101), to share tips when it comes ot etiquette in the workplace during our own Manner Monday segment. Manner Monday: Gossip Gossip no matter how hard we try to steer clear of it, it unfortunately rears its ugly head at some point. Engaging in gossip is one of the fastest ways to kill a career. When faced with the opportunity to gossip, or not to gossip: there is no question. Its simple: Donât gossip. Nothing good will ever come of it. When tempted to engage in revealing personal or sensational facts about another, or spreading rumors of an intimate nature, ask yourself: Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary? Is it my story to tell? If someone is trying to get you to gossip⦠simply state, âItâs not my story to tellâ and change the subject. And keep in mind⦠one who gossips to you, will more than likely gossip of you. Recently I was placed in a precarious situation by someone asking, âwhy didnât you tell me about so and soâ¦?â I politely responded with âitâs not my story to tellâ and moved on to another subject. This situation brought to mind the amazing Eleanor Roosevelt and a quote of hers, which is an all-time favorite of mine: âGreat minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.â âWhoâ or âWhatâ are you discussing these days? .ai-rotate {position: relative;} .ai-rotate-hidden {visibility: hidden;} .ai-rotate-hidden-2 {position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%;} .ai-list-data, .ai-ip-data, .ai-fallback, .ai-list-block {visibility: hidden; position: absolute; width: 50%; height: 1px; z-index: -9999;}

These jobs of the future are already popular now
These 'employments of things to come' are as of now well known at this point These 'occupations of things to come' are now mainstream now We definitely realize that mechanization is changing the activity showcase. Indeed, even in a flourishing economy, there are profession ways that are anticipated to show improvement over others in coming years and aptitudes that businesses will in general worth increasingly more in an Information Age.It may come as a stun, in any case, that the entirety of the alleged occupations of things to come are as of now on the ascent - even since a year ago. Ongoing examination appears to demonstrate that the activity showcase is as of now encountering changes as new or adjusted positions take off.IT administrations partnership Cognizant made the Jobs of the Future Index to follow 45 genuine employments and five intermediary occupations that are developing or scheduled to develop in businesses that are advancing. In 2018, employment opportunities in this class soar by 68% - speaking to another fame among these activity titles.And however we might be inclined to expect everything including wha t's to come is associated with innovation, the quickest developing occupations a year ago were not all in the computerized space. Style planner really beat the rundown, getting a charge out of a 279% development. Sun based designer, vocation advocate, web based life tactician/authority, and hereditary guide followed intently behind.The slowest developing occupations, in the interim, were maybe similarly as startling. There were more openings for enrolled medical attendants, biomedical specialists, sunlight based installers, home wellbeing assistants, and aviation design specialists in 2018, yet those increments were humble contrasted with in other jobs.All work families - calculations, mechanization, and AI; client experience; condition; wellness and wellbeing; human services; legitimate and budgetary administrations; transport; and work culture - beat their 2017 measures. Maybe obviously, in a time of radical change in the work environment, work culture was the quickest developin g activity family in 2018.There were other employment families that fared well - client experience occupations developed by 99%, and wellness and health employments hopped 74% when contrasting fourth quarters in 2017 and 2018.Some of these regions of development are not self-evident; when cutting-edge occupations are the subject of discussion, style may not be the primary business to ring a bell. Be that as it may, it's fascinating to see which work families are ok, and ideally, this implies the eventual fate of work searches useful for those of us who intend to be a piece of it.

Olympic competitions, not as tough as a job interview
Olympic competitions, not as tough as a job interview We are all out of steak knives people! Olympic Competition It isnt the candidate that is the most qualified, but the one who is best prepared for the interview that will walk away with the job offer. An Olympic competition is tough, but a job interview is more competitive. I like this clip to drive the point home: In the game of interviewing, there is no âsecond placeâ. WE ARE ALL OUT OF STEAK KNIVES PEOPLE! Interviewing for a job isnât a part-time endeavor, it isnât a game, and there is only ONE winner. This is not just a competition people, this of your self in a more competitive Olympic competition! This isnât a game of horseshoes or hand grenades where âclose is good enoughâ. There is no second place. There is only a first place loser. In the Olympics, you can still monetize and capitalize a Silver or Bronze medal. When it comes to job hunting there is only the Gold. The difference in performance between the Gold and the Bronze finisher can be minimal. The rewards differential can be huge. Referencing the first line, you can have the best skill set and be the most qualified for the job, but if you dont know how to interview, or are not prepared to interview, you arent going to get the job. In this economy, the competition is stronger than ever. For this reason, you need to practice your interviewing skills like you are preparing for an Olympic competition. Know exactly what you want to get across and practice your answers OUT LOUD on family, relatives, and friends. Practice with anyone that will listen and practice in front of a mirror. Reciting your answers in your mind may sound good to you but it doesnt translate to speaking your answers out loud. I have talked to numerous people who tell me âI know what I want to say, I dont need to practiceâ. But when I ask them: ⢠Tell me why I should hire you? ⢠What makes you the most qualified for the job? ⢠Tell me what you want to do in 5 years. 95% of the time, I hear half-ass answers to these most basic interview questions. These are questions we KNOW WE WILL BE ASKED. How you answer these questions set the tone for the rest of the interview. Stutters, ums and random thoughts do not cut it. I am sure candidates know how to answer these questions in their own mind, but they havenât practiced them out loud and it shows. It is painful. It is the equivalent of the Jamaican bobsled team. Olympic Competitions and job interviews compared Olympic competition: This competition happens only once every 4 years. Olympians prepare long and hard for a single moment, a single performance. There is no do-over. Interview: In this economy, interviews donât happen on a regular basis. We need to turn chance meetings into interviews. Be ready, fluid and treat preparation like you only have one opportunity every 4 years. Olympic competition: Single elimination, no wildcard entries here Interview: Single elimination. Dont articulate enough, you are out. Olympic competition: Performance is key. The athlete with the best, fastest, smoothest, or most fluid performance is the winner. Interview: The candidate with the most polished answers, the most articulate, and easily understood will usually get the job. They know how to emphasize their strengths, talk around their weaknesses, and demonstrate their accomplishments. Olympic competition: How you handle yourself not only on the playing field but off the playing field will affect the endorsements you receive. You can be a multiple medal winner, but if you screw it up off the field with your behavior you get nothing. Interview: It isnât just how you handle yourself in the interview room. You are being watched as soon as you enter the parking lot (no loud music as you drive in), when you enter the front lobby (treat the receptionist with respect), when you are taken out to coffee or lunch (donât order alcohol ever), and when they ask you to job shadow a company employee (consider this an interview even if you arenât asked any questions). Olympic competition: Uniform should be clean and appropriate Interview: There may not be a written rule about company dress code, but there are enough written and unwritten rules around interviewing that it is a topic that should be taken seriously. What first impression do you want to make? Olympic competition: The difference between first and second place is minimal and can be measured in 1/100âs of a second. The difference in monetary reward from endorsements between a Gold, Silver, and Bronze medal can be huge. Interview: The difference in interview performance between the first and second place candidate can be very minimal. Sometimes it comes down to the mood of the hiring manager or literally the flip of a coin. The difference in the monetary reward between first and second place is everything. You probably wonât even know where in the pack you finished. Even if you do get the job, there is a compensation band. You dont want to just get the position, you want an offer at the top of the band. What determines this? How polished your answers are during the interview. Olympic competition: You need stamina and discipline. There will be a sacrifice in the training, nutrition, time spent with friends and family. The focus is the name of the game. Olympians donât quit. Interview: You need to keep trying regardless of how much emotional investment you may have a particular job you were declined. If you have gone to 3, 4 or 5 interviews for the same job, you need to keep the same enthusiasm up for the next interview. Donât wonder about âwhy another interview?â Another interview means you are that much closer to the Gold. You made the cut! Keep your focus: Answer the same questions the 4th time you are asked with the same enthusiasm you did the first time. Your job hunt IS an Olympic competition and you donât know how many people you are competing against. If people saw the number of candidates all lined up that they were interviewing with, most wouldnât even try. The good thing is that very few of the entrants have practiced for this competition either. Practice your answers, articulate your accomplishments, and give examples. See you at the after party, HRNasty nasty: an unreal maneuver of incredible technique, something that is ridiculously good, tricky and manipulative but with a result that canât help but be admired, a phrase used to describe someone who is good at something. âHe has a nasty forkball. There is no quick fix or an easy way for an international graduate to get a job in the UK University of Manchester Careers Blog
There is no quick fix or an easy way for an international graduate to get a job in the UK I get asked on a regular basis how as an international student/graduate is the easiest way to find a job in the UK? The answer is there isnt an easy way to find a job in the UK as a UK graduate or an international graduate. The situation is not helped by the fact employers on most job posts indicate you must be eligible to work in the UK at the bottom of the job description. This can be very frustrating for international graduates as they have paid large sums of money to study in the UK with the hope of a career after. As it stands the visa regulations in the UK are very strict and are expected to be even more restricted in the coming months. But what can you do if there is no easy fix or search engine to help you. Here are a few pointers to help you as an international student/graduate looking for work in the UK or in fact anywhere. 1. Use job search engines like www.prospects.ac.uk , LinkedIn, University Careers Services vacancy database CareersLink http://www.careers.manchester.ac.uk/careerslink/, www.indeed.co.uk to help you find those graduate jobs and schemes. From this job search you need to do two things. Firstly ensure that the employers you have listed are on the employer sponsor registerhttps://www.gov.uk/government/publications/register-of-licensed-sponsors-workers. Secondly start to compile a spreadsheet of organisations who are hiring graduates in your field. 2. Once you have your list of employers start to search for alumni in those companies. You can do this through LinkedIn and the My Network tab on the tool bar. Hover over the My Network tab and a drop down menu will appear. Select the option Find Alumni and if your details on your profile are up to date your current University should appear. This tool is fantastic and allows you to find alumni via their location, company, expertise, what they studied and what the are good at. You can then start to find alumni in the organisations/sector you are interested in and that are possibly hiring. But be careful never, ever connect with alum and ask for a job!!! This is your opportunity to showcase your talent and connect with the individual to build a professional relationship that may in the future benefit you. 3. Attend employer events, workshops, skills sessions, fairs and networking opportunities. Ask for business cards so that you can get the company representatives name to connect with later via LinkedIn or to mention in a job application. Attending these events and getting an opportunity to showcase your commercial awareness to a potential recruiter can be key to getting that graduate job in the UK. 4. Keep up to date with your home market. Everyone needs a plan B! Understand how important is international work experience at the start of your career? Would getting experience in your home country in your field of interest building your knowledge, skills, expertise and network benefit you more initially then in 4 or 5 years time look at developing an international career and utilising the global network you have built for yourself. Employers in your home country value your overseas education and experiences whether extracurricular or work focused when they are looking to hire. Having a year in another country post graduation although difficult to get how beneficial overall would it be? Understand your market and what employers are looking for. Finally I get asked all the time do international students get jobs and visa sponsorship in the UK after graduation? The answer is yes they do, but this is critical to understand, those students that succeed dont say they havent the time to apply for all these jobs or research these companies. They dont tell me they are too busy to attend employer events or that London is too far to travel for a networking event. They dont turn up to fairs unprepared and not know everything they need to know about the employers they are interested in, because if they did they wouldnt get jobs in the UK. Follow their lead, make time for researching jobs, build that resilience when companies turn you down, keep going and maybe you will get that job offer! Good luck!
